INFO:Baldini was a centre back, sometimes used also as sweeper in five-men defence. He had his best time at Empoli, where he played 206 matches and scored 6 goals in two spells, the first being the 1991-92 seasons and the second being from 1995 to his retirement in 2001. Captain of the team during the whole second spell, he was the leader of the squad that gained a double promotion from Serie C1 to Serie A. He played also for several other clubs including Pistoiese and Siena.
Baldini was the typical old school centre back, who had the task of marking constantly the opposing striker, not letting him shoot on goal. Tall, strong and rough, he used to mark attackers with a physique similar to his. In fact, he had troubles against fast and shorter opponents. He was understandably slow but his height and good heading ability helped him to intercept many balls coming to his own area. He scored the memorable goal thanks to which Empoli avoided relegation in 1997-98 with a right-footed shot.
