INFO:Marco Lanna is a former defender, who acted mainly as centre back, playing also as sweeper and left back. Successor of Luca Pellegrini at Sampdoria, he played 184 matches and scored twice for the
Blucerchiati from 1987 to 1993, winning two Italian Cups, the 1989-90 Cup Winners' Cup, the 1990-91
Scudetto and the 1991 Italian Supercup. He gained 2 caps for Italy, one in 1992 and one in 1993. That year, he left Sampdoria to join Roma, where he played 131 games and scored 2 goals until 1997. He then spent four seasons in Spain, playing for Salamanca and Real Saragoza. He retired in 2002 after coming back to Sampdoria and playing 9 more matches.
Regarded as one of the best Italian defenders in the early 1990s, Lanna was a very good and consistent, strong in the air, able at intercepting and gifted with good sense of position. He possessed a good physique, was decent with the ball on his feet and in tight spaces. He was a reliable man marker, who rarely committed fauls. However, he's remembered for an awful faul on Bari's player João Paulo during 1991-92 Serie A for which Lanna never apologized. After that episode João Paulo had to stay out for around two seasons and his career was then compromised.
