Moreno Mannini is a former right back or centre back. He spent almost his entire career at Sampdoria, playing 501 matches and scoring 8 goals from 1984 to 1999, winning four Italian Cups, the 1989-90 Cup Winners' Cup, the 1990-91 Scudetto and the 1991 Italian Supercup. During his time with the Blucerchiati, he gained 10 caps for Italy. He played also for Imola, Forlì, Como, Nottingham Forest and retired in 2000.
One of the best right backs in the 1990s, Mannini was an excellent and consistent defender, a careful and powerful man marker. Hard to dribble and able at recovering the ball, he used to come near his opponent and wait for the right moment to take the ball from him if he didn't already anticipate him. Gifted with great speed, he liked pushing forward whenever he had the chance to support the attack and stopping the opponents from starting one of their own. On one hand his continuous movements exposed him to get injured ─ he missed half of the 1988-89 season ─ but on the other he scored a decent amount of goals. He possessed good technical qualities and a powerful shot. He scored even with volleys and lobs.
