INFO:One of the best ever German keepers, Franz Beckenbauer said if Nigbur was Bayern player he would have won 100 caps for Germany. He wasn't in good relations with Helmut Schon as well. Nigbur was the best PK saver in bundesliga history, saving 25 out of 31 penalties. He was keeper with spectacular saves, skilfull with the ball since he started as striker, had fantastic reflexes and excellent positioning on line. Norbert had also good jump and long drop kicks. Norbert Nigbur played in his youth for Hessler 06 and was initially used as a central striker. After he had held two penalties, he was only used as a goalkeeper. On his 18th Birthday, his father signed with Schalke's President Fritz Szepan first professional contract. For the 1966/67 Bundesliga season Nigbur was thus second keeper to Joseph Elting. On 3 September 1966 in the first game against FC Nuremberg, he took over from Elting and advanced at the age of 18 to number 1. Schalke lost in 1969 the finals of the DFB Cup against Bayern Munich 1-2. The team ended as runner-up in 1972. Norbert Nigbur was Keeper of the Bundesliga this season with the fewest goals against. Over 555 minutes of time he suffered a clean sheet, the record had over ten years of existence. Schalke won the DFB Cup with a 5-0 victory over the first FC Kaiserslautern. This was the first national title for Nigbur and the first for the club since 1958. After disagreements with coach Max Merkel and President Guenter Siebert on the renewal of his contract Nigbur joined for the 1976/77 season Hertha BSC. With this club he reached the finals at the 1977 Cup vs the Köln and 1979 against Fortuna Dusseldorf. He reconciled with Siebert and in 1979 returned to Schalke. In the 1980/81 season with 88 goals against Schalke went into the second From Bundesliga. Nigbur held the loyalty of the club and contributed his services to the immediate revival. After that however, there was a falling out with the new manager Rudi Assauer, Nigbur has been dropped from the squad. Even today he has a strained relationship with his former club Schalke 04, for which he was in a total of 466 competitive games between the posts. About the VfB Hüls 1984, he moved to Rot-Weiss Essen in the time of his third-rate Oberliga Nordrhein, where he played another 27 league games. He ended the season 1984/85 his long career. On February 23, 1974 Nigbur debuted in the senior team in the 0-1 defeat against Spain. He belonged to the National team squad that won the 1974 world title, but was only substitute goalkeeper. On 2 April 1980 against Austria, he completed his last of six international matches. For the European Championships in Italy in 1980, he was provided as goalkeeper, but had to cancel because of a serious injury. Today has Nigbur real estate and trot racing.
