INFO:Muftah is a former centre forward. He spent the majority of his career at Al-Rayyan, where he made 324 appearances from 1974 to 1995, scoring 317 goals. He then played for Al-Wakrah and Al-Saliya, retiring in 2000. He capped 73 times for Qatar, scoring 31 goals. Other sources though report 89 matches and 53 or 55 goals, making him the top scorer in the history of the national team. Nonetheless, he's Qatar top scorer in the history of the Gulf Cup and the second for most participations in the tournament behind Mubarak Anber.
Regarded as Qatar's greatest ever player and one of the greatest from the Gulf Arabic region, Muftah's former coach Evaristo described him as possibly the most influential person in Qatar's football during his playing career. He was left-footed but superb with the right too. He preferred delivering accurate shots and gave them power likely when he was very close to the goal, usually sending the ball right behind the bar. He possessed remarkable ball control and outstanding shot technique thanks to which he scored numerous goals with volleys, first time, bicycle kicks and lobs, showing also to be able of using the outside and giving the ball good curling. Nicknamed "the Fox", he was outstanding in the penalty box thanks to his ability to deceive the defensive line. He showed reaction, opportunism and excellent heading ability, hitting the ball after a dive or a great jump. He wasn't too fast on long distance but could dribble the defenders with short bursts of speed. He sometimes took free kicks and penalties, proving to be effective even from set piece.
