INFO:
Born in Posadas, Province of Córdoba, Alabanda began his sports career at Triana, within the lower echelons of Real Betis, and in July 1970 he began training with the Betis first team squad, making his professional debut in the 1972/73 season at Rayo Vallecano, where he was loaned by Betis. In the following season he returned to Betis, where he stayed for seven seasons and played 192 league games and 229 games between the League, Copa del Rey and European Cup Winners' Cup, scoring a total of 19 goals. Alabanda formed a very consolidated and unforgettable midfield, along with Julio Cardeñosa and Francisco Javier López García, being a member of the legendary team with which he won the Copa del Rey in 1977. Alabanda contributed 20 games to help the Andalusians finish fifth whilst winning the Copa del Rey, a penalty shootout win over Athletic Bilbao where he missed his attempt after a 2–2 regulation time draw. At the end of the following campaign, however, they suffered relegation to the Segunda División. Alabanda got his only international game in a match against West Germany, although he was selected several times he never played again. In 1980 he left Betis to play for Murcia for two seasons.

Indispensable player of Betis who won the Copa del Rey in 1977, he was always remembered for becoming the heart and lungs of that team, with a physical display that always went from less to more in the matches. When the rest of the players began to lack strength, Alabanda exhibited his power, as if it were a diesel engine. He was a powerful an energetic footballer with a long stride and generous in his efforts. He knew what his job required of him and above all he knew his limitations, and it was for that very reason that he knew exactly how to play the instruments that corresponded to him in that virtuoso orchestra conducted by Julio Cardeñosa. He was the ideal complement to Cardeñosa's silk and Javier López's goal and depth.

Alabanda was a midfielder of great power and ease in recovering the ball. He symbolizes the prototype of the self-made player. To his physical gifts and bravery, he added a tactical sense that made him always be well placed to cover passing lines and interrupt the rival's game. Without being a paragon of technical virtues, he had criteria when handling the ball short and was aware of his limitations, so he did not commit imprudence.
