Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Defence MindedINFO:René Stam was a long serving Den Haag goalkeeper, playing almost 400 games for the club from 1984 to 1996. He was a pretty good goalkeeper, particularly good in 1-on-1 situations and when coming off his line because of his good reflexes and acceleration, he could close space between himself and the attacker very quickly. He also had good catching abilities although he wasn't strong when dealing with crosses despite his height as he didn't dominate his box and preferred to let his defence deal with high balls. He had an interesting drop kicking technique: hitting the ball the moment it bounces with little backswing, that allowed him to hit accurate balls with low height and high speed that could start counterattacks. With Den Haag he won the second division undefeated and also reached the KNVB Cup final in 1987, losing in extra time.
