BalancedINFO:A complete footballer who could play in all positions in the team. Nationally as a right-back, reliable, good eye for the game, fast winger, good passer, strong balance and good heading. Magnus' great competence as a footballer meant that he could be used in all positions in the team. In Malmö, he mostly stayed in midfield but could also jump in as right or left back when Roland or Ingemar were not playing. Even as a centre-back, he played when needed. As a right back (his personal favourite), he worked hard on his right wing and followed up high in the lane.
Started out as a very promising forward, 1975 was Magnus' big breakthrough year! Debuted in MFF's A-team and took a regular place and became Swedish champion. In the beginning, he was replacing Roland Andersson at right back and would often play in the midfield. He became a regular in 1976. When Roland Andersson chose to return to MFF, coach Bob first chose to place Magnus as left back. Then he placed Ingemar Erlandsson in that place and moved Magnus up as right wing midfielder and then he was moved to left wing midfielder.
In 1977, he made his debut in the A national team, when the national team was to meet Scotland on April 27. He was a member of the Sweden national football team in the 1978 FIFA World Cup, but did not enter the field. What is interesting, before 1979, Magnus has never played in the central back position before (not even in youth teams!). Before the final, due to Bo Larsson and Roy Andersson being injured, coach Houghton practiced Magnus and Kent Jonsson as centre back pair! Later during his career, Magnus played mostly in midfield during the season and jumped in as right back when Roland Andersson was unable to participate.
Magnus Andersson spent his entire 13-year career at Malmö from 1975 to 1988. He played 265 league matches for the club, scoring 12 goals.
