He then joined Sepahan, where he played 122 matches from 2009 to 2012, scoring 6 goals and winning three Pro Leagues in a row. He eventually became a legend of Persepolis as he spent almost the rest of his career from 2012 to 2022 ─ excluding a season at Qatari team Al-Ahli in 2014-15 and one at Naft Tehran in 2015-16 ─ playing 256 games, scoring 12 goals and winning the Pro League five times. He capped for Iran in 114 occasions, scoring 8 goals.
Considered one of the best defenders in Iran history, Hosseini an excellent and strong centre back, who ensured solidness to the back line of his clubs and national team for years thanks to his outstanding leadership. He was distinguished also for tactical awareness, athleticism, positional sense, anticipation in the air and on the ground, combativeness, high level of running, an aggressive style of play, an amazing heading skill. Even though he was seemingly focused on the defence, he used to run an average 10 km per match as he constantly pressed on his opponents when his team was facing a moment of nervousness, and he made his presence felt in the opposing area during set pieces to take advantage of his ability in the air that earned him many goals. He possessed also a good shot with his natural right foot and a solid ball distribution. He usually distributed the ball with simple short passes to a close teammate, although he could deliver fine long passes. He once scored directly from free kick as he sent a pinpoint cross from his own half that deceived the goalkeeper during a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Kuwait. Additionally, Hosseini was capable of making good long throw-ins. In conclusion, the defender served his clubs and national team wholeheartedly, becoming a role model for the youngsters as well as the defenders he played alongside.
