Moran was a left-back. He spent his entire career at Liverpool, making 379 appearances from 1952 to 1965, scoring 17 goals. Moran was a strong left-footed defender, yet fast in execution, tackling and recovering the ball. The opponents hardly beat him by using pure quickness alone. Furthermore, he was a good set piece taker as he scored twice from free kick and eight times from penalty. He stopped taking penalties in 1973, after missing four in a row. Regarding his weaknesses, he was criticised for his anxiousness to play well for his team, which resulted in Moran being too impetous and prone to make mistakes in crucial moments.
