INFO:Pierre Pleimelding will remain an emblematic player of Lille at the end of the 1970s and during his time in the northern club he will reach a level that he will not know thereafter to the point of finishing fourth and third in the scoring rankings in the seasons 78/79 and 79/80 respectively with 21 and 18 goals. And this great efficiency in front of the opposing goal will earn him to be rewarded with his only selection in the team of France. A complete footballer. he has held all positions (In Monaco, he even played libero). Arribas made him a number 9 who started scoring goals. Excellent in heading and jumping game, fine reaction and positioning, Pleimelding could often be found in the middle of the field picking up the ball and moving Lille's attack. Decent passing skills, he had a fair share of nice short and weighted passes, but they weren't assists but only to move the opposing defence. He very often used one-touch passes in his game. He is part of the last attacking trio of which each player has reached the 15-goal mark in the same season in D1, in 1978/79 (with Olarevic and Cabral).
Pleimelding was a member of the youth department of AS Nancy towards the end of the 1960s, whose first team was coached by his father. When his father René took over the second division club Troyes AF in 1970, he was followed by both Pierre and his older brother Gérard Pleimelding. The young player was able to establish himself then at Colmar. But then he was very convincing in terms of play and especially as a goal scorer, whereupon he received an offer from the first division club AS Monaco in 1974. After moving directly from the amateur camp to the French top flight in the summer of 1974, the attacker initially finished fourth in the ranking of strikers at Monaco behind Delio Onnis, Christian Dalger and Michel Rouquette, but still played very often. In terms of scoring goals, however, he was hardly convincing in his years at Monaco, as he only scored eight times in three years. In 1976 he also had to accept the relegation to the second class. This was followed in 1977 by direct promotion, but Pleimelding had no prospect of a permanent regular place in his team and therefore accepted a contract offer from the second division club OSC Lille in the promotion year.
At Lille, Pleimelding held his own against Luxembourg international striker Gilbert Dussier and thus earned a regular place alongside Žarko Olarević and Jean-Paul Delemer. At the same time, he became considerably more dangerous in terms of goals following his move, scoring twelve times in the 1977/78 season and thus making his contribution to promotion to the top flight. With the promotion, the offensive department was strengthened by Roberto Cabral. The 1978/79 season was arguably the best of his career for Pleimelding, as he achieved a personal best of 21 goals in the league in addition to a sixth place in the table with Lille and a call-up to the national team. He was able to build on that in 1979/80, when he scored 18 times, which was enough for third place in the goalscoring statistics behind Delio Onnis and Erwin Kostedde. At the time, he was so unchallenged that he hadn't missed a single game between 1979 and 1981. Despite everything, in 1981, at the height of his career, he decided to leave Lille and went abroad, signing with the Swiss NLA club Servette FC Genève.
With Servette FC, he finished second in the 1982 final table in the Swiss championship, but had contributed only nine goals to the team's good performance and had thus remained a rather inconspicuous part of a strong offensive. In addition, there were problems with the local mentality, which led him to return to France after a year in Switzerland, in the second division club AS Cannes, which was considered a candidate for promotion thanks to some big names. In the end, however, it was only enough for seventh place in the table in 1982/83 and Pleimelding was the team's top scorer with twelve goals, but a clear distance to his best years at Lille was noticeable.
In 1983 he moved to FC Mulhouse. He played regularly for a season, even if he only scored two goals, and in 1984 he learned from the newly appointed coach Raymond Domenech that he was not planning any further with him. However, he remained in the squad until he ended his professional career in 1985 at the age of 32 after 157 first division games with 57 goals and 108 second division games with 31 goals in France and 27 first division games with nine goals in Switzerland.
Pleimelding made one appearance for France, on 8 November 1978, in a 1–0 friendly win against Spain.
