INFO:
A legend of the RSCA, powerful and versatile striker, Albert Gemmrich is the second highest scorer in Racing history. And for good reason, in six years spent at the Meinau (1973-1979), Albert Gemmrich scored a whopping 110 goals in 238 appearances, behind Oskar Rohr (118 goals). A second striker in his own words, he was mostly playing on the wing in Strasbourg as a goal-scoring winger. Able to hold all positions in front, often transfers to the middle, swaps with the other striker and winger. Accurate weighted split pass. Athletic, physical, dazzling, sprinter with fantastic acceleration, however possessed a bad character that stripped him off of more success in his career. His ball strike was very powerful which made him formidable from a free kick, which he took with great curve (he had that Henry curve and even scored goals from corners). Sometimes he could lack a little technical finesse, be clumsy and get carried away by his aggressiveness to the detriment of reflection, to the point of becoming messy. Even though he scored a lot of goals, He wasn't the best of scorers, often missed 1on1 opportunities.

Discovering football in Mutzig where he played as a libero or midfielder, Albert Gemmrich joined the ranks of RC Strasbourg in 1973. There, he was a regular finisher, since he scored his ten goals per season. Freshly crowned France champion in 1979 (Strasbourg's top scorer of the season), at the end of his contract with Strasbourg, Gemmrich did not want to sign a contract extension, preferring to take on a new challenge with Bordeaux, with salary conditions that the Alsatian leaders did not want to grant him. During his first season in Gironde, he established himself as a starter alongside Bernard Lacombe (up front in the 4-4-2 formation) and scored 12 goals but also shot 9 times on the posts. The following season, he was put in competition with Gérard Soler but found the net 14 times. Operated on pubalgia at the end of the 1980-1981 season, he suffered to regain his level. A little less successful in his third season (9 goals in D1), relegated to the bench more often than in his turn, he was the author of some gestures of mood. Thus, in October 1981, during a Bordeaux-Hamburg in the European Cup, he was replaced at the hour of play by Gérard Soler. Believing that he had played a good game, he violently threw the training jacket handed to him by his teammate Delachet. Arriving at the end of his contract in June 1982, he left the Girondins despite Jacquet's wish to keep him. The Bordeaux coach could not, however, guarantee him a place in the starting line-up, with the arrivals of Müller and Memering. Claude Bez gave him a month to think but after two days, the Alsatian announced his departure for the LOSC. In total, 109 games, 43 goals for the Girondins club. A few years later, he admitted that he had made a mistake not to renew his contract at Bordeaux. Unfortunate in the North, he stayed there only one season, scoring no goals and returned to Strasbourg in July 1983. He ended his career in 1986 with a final challenge with OGC Nice.

Albert Gemmrich received five caps for the France national team in 1978. He played his first match for the national team on 8 February 1978, in a friendly against Italy in Naples (2-2 draw). His second match took place on May 11, 1978 against Iran in Toulouse (2-1 win). On this occasion, he scored his first goal for the national team.12. Albert Gemmrich then played two matches counting towards the Euro 1980 qualifiers: against Sweden (2-2 draw in Paris), then against Luxembourg (1-3 away win). He scored a goal against Luxembourg. He received his last cap on November 8, 1978, in a friendly against Spain (1-0 win in Paris).
