I prefer AS teams. But following your reasoning, they also include players who weren't featured together. The only way to have teams with only players from the same period is to have era teams that cover only one-two seasons.

I also prefer AS teams, and for me this is the only time it makes sense to put players from different eras.

Incorporating an outstanding season (as long as it's supposed to be so) inside an era seems the best solution. You could provide the era team first and then add a season team in a spoiler. Of course there could be an isolated season team or an era team. An era is usually defined by a coach or under a specific president in an extended version.
