INFO:Makwaza was a centre-back. He spent his entire career at Mufulira Mine Team (then Mufulira Wanderers) from 1961 to 1975, winning the national league in 1963, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1969, and numerous domestic cups. He was appointed team captain from 1969. He capped for Zambia 74 times from 1965 to 1975, representing the national team at the 1974 African Cup of Nations as captain as he's one of the longest serving to fill the role for Zambia. He was named Zambian Footballer of the Year in 1973.
Regarded as one of the finest defenders in Zambian history, Makwaza by his tenacity in defence, great spirit of sacrifice and dedication that earned him the nickname "Barbed-wire". He was part of a formidable defensive partnership with Dick Chama. While Chama had the tendency to push forward, Makwaza always was the last stalwart of the back line. He led his defence with composure and authority but never needing to be aggressive. In fact, he never received a yellow card. And it's thanks to his leadership that he was named captain of both Mufulira and Zambia. In addition, he was praised for being quite skilled on the ball despite being a centre-back, given that he played as a winger in his youth.
