Lucarelli is a former left-back. His career started in 1981 at Pistoiese. He signed for Avellino in 1984. He eventually had his best time at Pisa where he played from 1987 to 1991 and 1995 to 1997, making 212 appearances and scoring 6 goals. He also played for Padova, Cremonese, Castelnuovo and Massese, retiring in 1999.
Always playing on the left flank with the jersey n°3, he was known for his regular offensive runs that often allowed him to be an addition to the forward line and to score some goals. He was solid with the head as much as he was with his left foot. Pisa's fans remember him fondly for the excellent goal he scored against Fiorentina with a left-footed volley from an angled position on 29th November 1987. The goal didn't have too much power but the coordination and accuracy were remarkable, especially for a defender. Lucarelli was also a solid crosser who created several scoring chances from the left side.
