He played for Bolton Wanderers from 1947 to 1961 and was a member of the 1958 FA Cup winning team when Bolton beat Manchester United. He also played six matches for the England national team in 1958, including all four matches in the 1958 FIFA World Cup. Together with his right-back partner, Roy Hartle, he formed one of the most feared defensive combinations in English football. Ian Seddon in 'Ah'm Tellin' Thee: Tommy Banks' wrote: He knew (as did knowledgeable football fans come to realise) that apart from the hard uncompromising Tommy Banks here was a gifted footballer. He could pass the ball well, was reasonable in the air, and he could read a game of football. It was a man 's game back then, his unquestionable ability sadly often being lost in translation due to his physical approach. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Banks_(footballer)https://www.nasljerseys.com/Players/H/Hartle.Roy.htmhttps://cardhawkuk.com/product/abc-footballers-1958-59-s1-c-43-tommy-banks-bolton-wanderers/https://cardhawkuk.com/product/thomson-d-c-stars-of-sport-entertainment-rover-1960-tommy-banks-bolton-wanderers/https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125128210835https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ij7wiBzNu4 against Man United in FA cup final in 1958, 6:21s acceleration & dribble & pass with left foot, 8:10s chasing & tackling, 8:57s long pass with right foot, 9:25s tackling, 12:32s interception & long pass, 19:00s interception & being fouled & freekick, 21:01s interception, 29:41s dribble & accurate pass with right foot, 30:10s tackling, 31:20s sprinting, 32:08s interception & clear, 35:47s short pass, 40:07s sprinting against Bobby Charlton, 41:05s 1-on-1 against Viollet, 44:11s long ball, 47:12s tackling, 49:47s header, 1:08:14s dribbling, 1:08:35s short pass, 1:11:25s long pass, 1:11:42s long freekick by right foot, 1:19:19s pass, 1:21:53s went up to the opponent's box & short pass, 1:28:11s dribbling & pass, 1:34:35s went up to the opponent's box & cross. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6kJLYuXviQ against USSR in 1958, 0:34s header, 3:54s tackling, 4:56s tackling, 6:22s tackle & pass, 8:12s pass, 11:46s dispossess G.
