Justo Villar is a former Paraguayan footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born in Cerrito, Ñeembucú (30/06/1977), he began his football career at Club Sol de América in 1996. In the small Asunción club, he played 119 matches over four years. He later joined Club Libertad of Paraguay, where he won two Paraguayan League championships in 2002 and 2003. In mid-2004, Villar transferred to C.A. Newell's Old Boys in Argentina, where he became one of the best goalkeepers in the American continent. That same year, Villar was chosen as the best player of the championship, which he eventually won, conceding only 11 goals in 19 matches. He was also named "Goalkeeper of the Year" by the Argentine press and won the Paraguayan Footballer of the Year Award, succeeding Óscar Cardozo. In January 2008, terms were agreed between Newell's and Real Valladolid of Spain for Villar's transfer, and he was officially presented on July 14 of that year following the departure of Sergio Asenjo. On January 9, 2009, he was named the tenth Best Goalkeeper in the World for 2008, according to the IFFHS vote. After a three-year stint, he was released in June 2011 at the age of 34, mainly due to his high salary. Following his outstanding performance in the Copa América in 2011, he returned to Argentina to play for Estudiantes de La Plata. However, an injury prevented him from realizing his full potential. In February 2013, he returned to his native Paraguay to play for Club Nacional, where he once again won the Paraguayan football championship. Subsequently, on June 13, 2013, he signed with Colo-Colo of Chile, where he remained until 2017 and became one of the best goalkeepers in the Chilean club's history, winning the Primera División in 2014 and 2015, and the Copa Chile in 2016, before officially retiring from professional activity in 2018 at the age of 41, playing for Club Nacional of Paraguay.

He debuted with the senior national team on March 3, 1999, against Guatemala (Paraguay won 3-2). He was the third goalkeeper behind José Luis Chilavert and Ricardo Tavarelli in the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan. In the 2006 World Cup, he participated in one match, playing the first 7 minutes before getting injured against the English national team and being replaced by Aldo Bobadilla, who went on to play the remaining matches of the tournament, which did not progress past the first phase. In the next World Cup held four years later in South Africa, he became the Paraguayan goalkeeper who kept his goal unbeaten the longest in a World Cup, reaching 411 minutes without conceding a goal. He is followed by his compatriot José Luis Chilavert with 190 minutes. In the South Africa World Cup, his national team topped Group F by facing Italy (1-1), Slovakia (2-0), and New Zealand (0-0), where Villar conceded only one goal from Daniele De Rossi, securing a spot in the round of 16, where Paraguay defeated Japan on penalties (5-3) after a 0-0 draw in extra time. In the quarterfinals, his Paraguayan team was defeated by the eventual champion Spain (0-1) after an intense match in which Villar was the standout player, saving a penalty from Spain's Xabi Alonso. He captained his team in all five matches, conceding only two goals. A year later, Villar was again called up to play in the 2011 Copa América, where he was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament, keeping a clean sheet in the quarterfinals against Brazil and the semifinals against Venezuela, before losing the final 3-0 to Uruguay. Villar also played in the 2015 and 2016 Copa América, as well as the qualifiers for the 2014 Brazil World Cup and the 2018 Russia World Cup, officially retiring from the Paraguayan National Team on June 12, 2018, against Japan, completing 120 matches for La Albirroja, making him the second player with the most matches for the national team, behind Paulo Da Silva (150). Justo Villar is considered one of the best Paraguayan goalkeepers in history and one of the best Latin American goalkeepers of the 21st century.
