of one certain decade, can only be in the reserves of all other decades. - The main list of each decade is a group of the most notable holding midfielders of that decade. The order is not a ranking system, however the first midfielder of each decade is considered as the most representative of that decade. - A holding or deep-lying midfielder stays close to their team's defence, while other midfielders may move forward to attack. The holding midfielder may also have responsibilities when their team has the ball. This player will make mostly short and simple passes to more attacking members of their team but may try some more difficult passes depending on the team's strategy.
