INFO:Igwe is a former right-back. He spent his entire career at Lagos based team Stationary Stores, playing in the 1960s and 1970s. He played briefly in the United States in 1980 with Golden Gate Gales. He capped for Nigeria 40 times between 1968 and 1974, scoring 3 goals.
Considered one of the greatest side-backs in Nigeria's football history, Igwe was also a legendary captain for his national team. He's credited as the one who introduced in Nigeria and possibly in Africa a style of play that later became typical of the wing-back all around the world. Igwe was way ahead of his generation as he possessed uncommon technique and skills, especially for a defender. He made the right-back position his own, mixing a solid defensive style with overlapping, elegant sprints down the flank, often joining the attack like a traditional winger and delivering accurate pinpoint, decisive crosses to the box.
