Small online History of Italian Football 1990-2000

Through this topic I want to share some of the football material in my possession, building a small online history of Italian football, through the pages of "Guerin Sportivo". I don't have much time available, but little by little I will be able to publish everything I have set out to do, that is, all the Serie A matches, the Italian Cup and the various competitions involving Italian teams, the pages dedicated to the European Cups of Italian teams and Italy's matches. In the event that an Italian team or the Italian national team is not present at the finals of the competitions, I will publish the article relating to the match or matches in question. Hoping that many will like them, I will start publishing from the 90s and then I will choose which football year to go to and whether to go back, publishing material relating to years before the 90s. It will take months if not years to complete all this: it will be something, which I will publish every now and then, but I hope one day to be able to finish it and share the material in my possession with you. Each year I will be divided into several episodes based on the material present in the issues of the magazines that I will publish from time to time.

Le signore del Mondial, Gruppo F:         Particolarità delle figurine dell'Iran, Album Panini, Francia 98: The Iran stickers from the Panini album of France 98 have a particular and interesting story that is worth exploring. In fact, Iran did not give permission to Panini to publish the images of its players, not because, as was wrongly said, it did not want to, being an Islamic Republic, but because it granted the rights to another Italian company(also from Modena like Panini) that wanted to compete with Panini in printing the World Cup album. This was DS, which acquired the image rights of Iran and other teams, thus publishing a complete version of the World Cup album. The exclusive concession complicated things. In fact, shortly before going to press, Panini prepared the sketches to print the stickers that were to be included in the World Cup album. The Iranian national team initially granted the image rights, only to retract when the stickers were practically ready to go to print. Panini was surprised, so much so that it declared that the stickers of the Iranian players would not even be printed. This created many problems for the company and also for those who intended to collect the stickers from the album. Panini could not print those stickers with the rest of the album and had no choice but to print them as a newspaper insert, not in the form of stickers but as a flyer, defined as an advertising insert and published only in some countries where it did not have the restrictions described above, thus circumventing the exclusive rights on the stickers. The Iran France 98 set was then included as an insert in Guerin Sportivo number 25 of 1998 in Italy. For the international versions, Panini tried to do the same thing by printing them with other publishers combined with sports newspapers. For example, in England they published them through the publisher "Arco" but the prints were of inferior quality. The stickers had to be cut out and glued.
