In July 1946, together with Peter Farrell, Eglington signed for Everton. In September 1946 he made his League debut for the club in a 3–2 home win against Arsenal. In eleven seasons at Everton he played 394 league games and scored 76 goals. He also played a further 34 games and scored a further 12 goals in the FA Cup. During his time with Everton his teammates, apart from Farrell, also included Alex Stevenson, Peter Corr, Harry Catterick, Wally Fielding, Tommy E. Jones, and Dave Hickson.

Eglington's most prolific scoring season came in 1952–53 when he scored 16 times, 14 in the Second Division and 2 in the FA Cup. On 27 September 1952, he scored 5 of these goals in just one game at Goodison Park against Doncaster Rovers, helping Everton to a 7–1 win. He also reached double figures in both 1953–54 and 1955–56. During the 1953–54 season his goals helped Everton finish as runners up in the Second Division, thus gaining promotion to the First Division.

- Eglington was best known as a chance-maker, for his acceleration down the wing and his ability to deliver accurate passes at speed. He also possessed a powerful shot. He remains one of Everton's all-time leading goalscorers and has played more games in the Second Division than any other Everton player.

- A young left winger who handled the ball with the coolness and skill of a veteran.

- Then Tommy increased the pressure on England. The Independent said he was "at his best" and "ran to fire a great shot" and "minutes later another shot went just wide.

- He scored in the dying moments of the second round, taking Hibs to the semi-final, where he fired in a fierce volley to seal their place in the final. He could be satisfied with what the archive called his "wonderful season." He retired from football soon after.

- Everton fans still talk about their speedy winger, who had “the pace that launched 1,000 attacks”, and the Liverpool Echo praised his “tremendous speed, intricate close control and stunning shooting power”. At home, Tommy is known as one of Ireland's greatest ever players.

- A superb professional whose dedication to coaching was reflected in a remarkably injury-free career, Eglington made 24 appearances for the Republic and six for Northern Ireland.

- Although he scored just two goals for the Republic, he is remembered above all as a creator of chances for those within his grasp. As one of the most effective players of his generation, "Eggo" on the burst was one of the great spectacles at Dalymount. His acceleration to ten yards was spectacular and his ability to deliver a pinpoint pass at speed was his trademark.

I have a problem sometimes with the subject of physical resistance, especially with players who smoke, and that is that there are players who have yellow values ​​(Johan Cruyff or in a more impressive case Di Stefano who has red values ​​who, although he was not a constant smoker like Cruyff, did it) I have a player like Aurel Guga, a thread I made and I placed him with a resistance in green values ​​but according to his description he was a very re player, knowing that, is it really necessary to take into account the issue of cigarettes to determine physical resistance?

Rather than physical resistance, I'd say stamina and condition. But it depends on what's said about the player. If he could play well and run constantly despite his passion for smoke, then it shouldn't matter. But if a player is described as someone with condition problems or low stamina and smoke is one of the reasons for it, then it does matter.
