INFO:A player with extraordinary physical condition, refined technique and speed, tireless commitment that characterized his football. Captain of the famous 1973/74 league winning team, he was a starter in all 34 games (6 goals) and the engine of Cruyff's Barca who covered a lot of ground. Juan Carlos was a player who "balanced the team and who was the ideal complement to the deployment of the forward line made up of Rexach, Sotil, Cruyff, Asensi and Marcial", and was the collateral victim of the arrival of Johan Neeskens to Barcelona last season after the 0-5 trashing of Real Madrid. Throughout his career and especially in the Racing years, he came to play as a striker, left winger, playmaker, central defender, libero and defensive midfielder, his most usual position. The good players play anywhere well.
It was in that season that Juan Carlos played his only two games with the Spanish national team. On 21 December October 1973 was called up for the qualifying match for the World Cup against Yugoslavia in Zagreb but did not make his debut. He did so three days later in a friendly against Germany in Stuttgart that Spain lost 2-1. He played 45 minutes. Only knee injuries prevented Juan Carlos from becoming one of the undisputed regulars of the national team.
