Fabio Luciano was very vigorous and tall defender that was known for his good presence in the area, both in defense and attack, which explains the large number of goals he scored, most of them with his head. His career peak occurred at Fenerbaçe, where he won two Turkish League titles, gained fame for his defense of teammates in heated classic matches against Galatasaray and was called for Brazil's National Team for two games between 2003-04.
He left the turkish club after a pubic injury in 2006, going to Germany where he played for FC Köln for a short period of time and then moved to Flamengo in the middle of 2007 season. At Flamengo, Fabio Luciano quickly gained the respect and love of the fans, with his "sheriff-style" of defense and very solid performances; at this time he was considerably slower than at Fenerbaçe, but he compensated this with a good space-awareness, game reading and safe passes transitioning between defense and attack.
