INFO:
Soumah was a centre-back who initially was a forward and midfielder. He spent his entire career at Hafia in the 1960s and 1970s, being part of the legendary team that won the African Cup of Champions Clubs three times. He capped for Guinea at least 26 times between 1966 and 1975, scoring 7 goals.
Deployed in the forward line and in midfield in his early career, Soumah established himself as a centre-back and captain for the majority of his career. Even in the back-line, he kept good technical qualities and solid shooting ability as he scored from penalty 5 of his 7 Guinea goals. From a defence perspective, he was capable of stopping opposing attacks without much difficulty, as he proved in the successful 1972 African Cup of Champions Clubs final against Ugandan team Simba FC: Soumah was remarkably efficient in neutralising numerous offensive plays coming from the Ugandans during the two-legged game, thus boosting Hafia's players morale by personally taking care of things. In an interview from late 2023, his former teammate in the Guinea national team Sékou Condé described Soumah as a complete player who possessed extraordinary sense of position ─ [AN] he didn't have an imposing physique ─ and always made sure that the back-line was safe; his style was well balanced with that of Condé who was more fierce and less careful in tackling, and for that reason he was often told off by Soumah himself.
