Born on September 24, 1927, Carlito is the classic one-shirt player: he played only for Bahia, between 1946 and 1959. At his peak, he received an offer to go and play for Flamengo, but he refused because his fiancée didn't want to live in Rio de Janeiro.
Carlito was known for being a great finisher and header, he had excellent positioning and was also a fierce and disruptive attacker. These characteristics helped him score 253 goals in 341 games for Tricolor. He is also Bahia's top scorer in Ba-Vis, with 21 goals.
With Bahia, Carlito won nine Campeonato Baiano titles, in 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1952, 1954, 1956, 1958 and 1959. The striker was also in the squad that won the 1959 Brazilian Championship title, but was no longer a starter, as he had given up the position to Léo Briglia.
