Defense MindedINFO: One of the greatest idols in the history of Bahia at all times, Roberto Rebouças, known as the "Bahian Wall", arrived at Tricolor in 1963 in a negotiation with Vitória involving striker Didico.
On the pitch, his strong temperament always caught everyone's attention. He even had a disagreement with tricolor president Osório Vilas Boas, but even so he did not refuse to respond to a call from the club in 1965. On that occasion, Bahia would face Vitória and he was called to act as a striker, as Bahia's attack was booming. Roberto performed well and helped the Tricolor beat their biggest rival 2-1, thus winning the second round of the Bahia Championship at that time. However, such fighting spirit was costly, as a tibia injury left from this match left him out of the decision and thus Bahia were not the same, unfortunately losing the Bahia title that year to Leãozinho da Barra.
In 1972, on the eve of that year's Bahian Championship final against Vitória, Roberto had a fight with the then coach Fleitas Solich, and because of this, the board suspended his contract for 30 days, imposing a fine of 60% on his salaries. Roberto's departure shook the team. The following day Solich armed the tricolor with four attackers: Natal, Alberto, Douglas and João Daniel. However, after just four minutes, Vitória opened the scoring. Desperate and without a tactical plan, Bahia went head on, opening themselves up to Red and Black's counterattacks and at the end of the first half they were already losing 2-0. At the end of the match, Bahia was defeated 3-1 and Leãozinho da Barra won its only title of the 70s. For the tricolors, the lack of the "Bahian Wall" in this match made the difference.
The best defender in Bahia's history knew how to hit as well as stroke. He would give the attackers goose bumps and, afterwards, he would start playing, chest puffed out and raised, looking for the best placed teammate, the right pass.
Honestly, I hated lying. “Either it is or it isn’t”, he put it simply. Hence, he never denied that he liked to have drinks and beat his asses in the Associação Atlética internal championship, in Barra, even after becoming a football professional.
