Centi is a former defensive or central midfielder, occasionally deployed as side or attacking midfielder. His career started in 1975 at Sulmona. He spent the majority of his career at Como where he played from 1977 to 1981 and 1983 to 1991 for a total 355 appearances and 3 goals. He was Como's captain throughout his entire second spell at the club. He also played for Inter in 1981-82 and Avellino in 1982-83.
Centi was a very good midfielder, gifted with excellent ball distribution and tactical awareness, great dynamism and stamina, solid pace and technical skills. He was the main organiser of Como's attacks as he could start them from the back with short passes or provide accurate long crosses after he had went forward. He moved constantly, supporting both attacks and defense. In fact, he was sometimes deployed very close to the back-line as he could cover and protect it well, also breaking the opposition's attacks if necessary. Even though he barely scored throughout his whole career, he possessed a decent and powerful shot that troubled many goalkeepers.
