At the beginning of his career, Amilcar played as center-forward in Corinthians, playing as inside-forward at the National Team when called up to play alongside other great players, but in 1918 he was already standout as center-half as his main position.
Amilcar was a key player for the first most important titles of the Brazilian National Team: Sul-Americano of 1919 and 1922 (nowadays Copa América). In the 20's he was considered one of the best center-halves of the world by the press.
The great Corinthians at his time was called the Corinthians of Neco and Amilcar but due a controversial move to the biggest rival, Palestra Itália (nowadays Palmeiras), he was forget by the club and didn't receive the recognition he deserved.
He was afterall also an important player for Palestra Itália, being a leader and a consistent player for the club. Becoming an idol. At the end of his career he also played some games as center-back.
Already acting as a coach for Lazio from Italy, he played only one game, a decisive match against Bari to save his club of relegation. He was successful in his adventure, saving Lazio of playing Italian Serie B the following year.
