INFO:Sándor Szűcs (January 8, 1921 - June 4, 1951) was a Hungarian football player. He began to play for Szolnoki MÁV, but he spent his best years playing for Újpest FC as a defender and helped the club win Hungarian League in three consecutive years from 1945 to 1947. Between 1941 and 1948, played 19 times Szűcs for Hungary, being one of the best central defenders in Europe during the forties. He played with such great players like Ferenc Szusza and Gyula Zsengellér for Újpest and Ferenc Puskas, Jozsef Bozsik, Ferenc Deák, György Sárosi or Nándor Hidegkuti for Hungary.
After communist takeover of Hungary, an era of conceptual, pre-arranged attempts by the regime has begun with many victims. The Communist Party tried to get involved in every part of daily life, and to rename the club to Újpest Budapesti Dózsa and expose them under police control were just a step of the cases. In 1951 resulting from a nascent plan was Szűcs, which still was an active player from Újpest, defect over the country cheated and extorting AVO. After the months spent in prison, he was sentenced to death for high treason during a pre-arranged secret trial and executed later. The real reason behind the cases was to warn off Puskás, Bozsik and other members of the Hungarian Golden Team of the defection. Warning was made "successful" because no other Hungarian football players tried to leave the country until 1956.
